A fully custom tattoo. Your idea, your pictures, my artwork, my style.

A custom tattoo is a big commitment for you and me. They take planning, discussion, fitting, applying and a lot of patience. Custom projects are not something I enter into lightly and neither should you. My style of art makes it impossible to simply say ‘skull’ and have at it. Each piece of artwork that I produce is carefully put together to balance, flow with the body and maintain high levels of contrast. Working with someone else’s images and ideas doubles the time it takes me. Which is why I only take on a maximum of 4 of these projects each year.

It’s a long journey and a huge commitment that just isn’t for everyone.

But, if you’re still reading this then maybe it is for you! My process for a custom shop tattoo clients is below and is a little different from the process of my other tattoos.

Description

What Happens Once I’ve Bought My Custom Shop Tattoo?

Firstly, Thankyou!

Once you’ve bought your artwork you’ll get an email to confirm your purchase and arrange your appointments. This email also contains a single use code for a 50% discount off your next artwork purchase that you can use at any time. If you have any problem using it, please email info@paultlbt.com and we’ll sort it out for you.

  • PLEASE NOTE: The artwork fee is just that. It’s not the total cost of your piece, just the artwork. All tattoo sessions are charged at my current day rate
  • Send me your ideas and images via email – paul@paultlbt.com
Please include all the images & text you want me to use in your piece along with any reference images (if required) to give me an idea of where you want me to go with it.
  • Once I’ve had a chance to go over them, I’ll set up a face-to-face meeting at my studio or a zoom/FaceTime call if you’re not close to me for us to discus your idea and throw around some ways that we could approach your piece. This is the planning phase.
It’s REALLY important at this stage to be very clear about what you want. If you only want black hot-rod flames just say that. Don’t be embarrassed as it really helps me understand what you want if you can be as clear as possible.
As you can imagine, I prefer NOT to try and do this via email as ‘getting your idea across’ can be difficult using only text.
If we decide not to proceed after the consultation process, I’ll refund 80% of the artwork fee.
Once we have a plan and we’ve agreed to proceed with the project Carron will contact you with dates etc. While I make a start on your artwork.
I made need to contact you during the initial artwork process to ask questions and show you rough drafts of my design.
  • Once I have a ‘first draft’ of your artwork I’ll send it to you to either approve or amend
  • 2 rounds of artwork amendments are included in your artwork fee. Further changes beyond that may incur further hourly rate charges. So please BE CLEAR in the planning phase!
  • After that, simply a case of waiting for your appointment.

Appointment Info

  • I start tattooing at 11am and usually aim to finish around 5:30pm. You can arrive at the shop anytime after 10:30am but please no earlier as you’ll just ‘get under our feet’ while we’re cleaning!
  • You can ask Carron any travel/allergy related questions too.
  • My entire process is Vegan and a close to carbon neutral as is possible.
  • I usually stop around 3pm for food for about 30mins.
  • Vaping is currently permitted on the premises. No cloud competitions though.
  • I’ll make any changes to your artwork before I create your stencil.  I may need freehand some of the elements depending on placement and this can take a while. Please be patient. It’s a process.
  • Once stencils are dry and any freehand adjustments are made tattooing will begin. This is the time for you to make absolutely sure that you’re happy with everything. Tattooing is a permanent procedure and I can’t move your tattoo ‘over a bit’ once I’ve started. So please talk to me, I don’t bite!
  • Tattooing does hurt and yes, I do know this. Please sit still and in the position I put you in. You might be a little uncomfortable but – at this stage – all that matters is that you leave with a great tattoo – and the responsibility for that is 50% on you. I can’t tattoo a moving target and wriggling and complaining will just make your tattoo take longer and my back hurt.
  • Once we’ve finished I’ll take some pictures and go over aftercare with you. All aftercare is supplied as a part of the cost of your tattoo. This usually takes around 30 minutes and involves coffee.

I try to make every session as fun as I can and I enjoy a good chat while I’m working but if you prefer to wear headphones and listen music or watch movies then please say and I’ll shut up and get on with it. No worries.

I look forward to tattooing you soon.
